THE LOST ART OF THINKING

It seems to me that our society is losing objectivity when it comes to the thinking. The ramifications of this are staggering; loss of effective leadership, the inability to involved in productive discourse and the increase in wholesale ignorance.  I’ve been reading several articles pertaining to education in this country, specifically the impact on minority students. I have to say that public education chaffing under ever increasing mandates are becoming ineffective in creating an environment that fosters creativity and innovation. Students have become walking snippets of facts and not free thinkers. I believe that an individual should be given the tools needed to have a rational open discussion on a wide range of topics. We have always had at least two educational tiers in this country; the current political climate, in my opinion, is fostering a myopic view of reality. The attempts by some to; step backward in time, socially and politically while at the same time allowing segments of society to fall in a void of gleeful ignorance is truly terrifying.  It is up to responsible members of society to educate those closest to us and allow those individuals to be beacons of intellectual light to the rest. What say you?
